Contaminant detection & secure rejection

Fail-safe reject systems for metal detectors

A detection event must lead to a controlled and auditable removal. We integrate conveyor metal detectors with secure reject devices and monitoring suited to your HACCP or quality process.

The inspection result is only useful when the right product leaves the line.

The reject arrangement is designed around the product and the consequence of a missed rejection. For loose or lightweight packs an air blast may be appropriate; for cartons, jars, trays and heavier products a pusher, swing arm, drop flap or lane diverter may provide more positive handling.

Fail-safe options can monitor reject-device position, air pressure, reject-bin level and bin access. If the expected confirmation is not received, the line can be stopped and an alarm raised. Final monitoring requirements are agreed through the project risk assessment and customer quality standard.

Typical pass / fail criteria

Decisions the reject system can act on.

The final inspection capability depends on the selected equipment, product presentation and agreed acceptance criteria. Sample trials are used where practical.

✓Ferrous contamination signal
✓Non-ferrous contamination signal
✓Stainless-steel contamination signal
✓Detector fault or unhealthy signal
✓Consecutive reject events
✓Challenge-test confirmation
Engineered as one sequence

From detection signal to independently confirmed removal.

01

Positive removal

A reject mechanism chosen to remove the complete pack across the operating speed range.

02

Fail-safe inputs

Low air, bin full, access open and reject-not-confirmed conditions can stop the line.

03

Hygienic construction

Stainless frames, guarded mechanisms and cleanable designs for production environments.

Specification questions

Before we design the reject station.

Product samples, line drawings and a short production video help us identify the best next step.

Can you retrofit rejection to an existing detector?+

Often, yes. We review the detector output, conveyor construction, product spacing, available reject length and guarding before confirming feasibility.

What happens if the reject does not complete?+

With reject verification enabled, the system can alarm and stop the conveyor when the expected confirmation is not received.

Can the reject bin be locked?+

Yes. Lockable reject bins and supervised access can be built into the station where controlled product handling is required.
