Camera inspection & controlled rejection

Automatic reject systems for vision inspection

Turn a camera result into a reliable physical outcome. Oxford Vision Systems integrates vision inspection, product tracking, reject actuation and independent verification as one engineered sequence.

The inspection result is only useful when the right product leaves the line.

A machine-vision system can identify a non-conforming product in milliseconds, but the quality decision is only complete when that exact product is removed from the good-product stream. We engineer the interface between camera, conveyor and reject mechanism so the result remains associated with the correct pack as it travels along the line.

Applications range from simple presence or orientation checks to multi-camera inspection of labels, closures, colour, surface condition and assembly. The reject method is selected around product stability, spacing, mass and line speed, with buffering or pitch control added where reliable separation is needed.

Typical pass / fail criteria

Decisions the reject system can act on.

The final inspection capability depends on the selected equipment, product presentation and agreed acceptance criteria. Sample trials are used where practical.

✓Missing component or product
✓Incorrect position or orientation
✓Colour and shape mismatch
✓Seal, surface or closure defect
✓Dimensional tolerance failure

From detection signal to independently confirmed removal.

01

Inspection interface

Discrete pass/fail I/O, encoder-based tracking or agreed communications interface.

02

Product control

Guide rails, pitch control and conveyor geometry that preserve product identity.

03

Verified removal

A separate sensor proves the expected failed product reached the reject area.

Specification questions

Before we design the reject station.

Product samples, line drawings and a short production video help us identify the best next step.

Can you integrate an existing vision camera?+

Usually, yes. We confirm the available reject output, timing data, line speed, product spacing and control responsibility before defining the interface.

How is the failed product tracked?+

Tracking may use timed sensor logic or an encoder, depending on speed variation, conveyor layout and the distance between inspection and rejection.

Can one system handle different products?+

Yes. Recipe-controlled timing and reject settings can be incorporated where the line runs multiple validated product formats.
